LGPS Central (LGPSC) Ltd is the FCA regulated asset manager for eight local authority pension funds across the Midlands, jointly owned on an equal shares basis by the Partner Funds. It manages over £45bn of assets and is responsible for responsible investment across all asset classes.
Job Summary
As Portfolio Manager – Active Equities, you will work within the Active Equity Investment Team, reporting to a Senior Portfolio Manager. Your role will involve managing equity analysis and multi‐manager portfolios, implementing investment, responsible investment and risk & compliance policies, and ensuring compliance with the Senior Managers and Certification Regime.
Responsibilities
- Manage active multi‐manager equity sub‐funds and investment mandates.
- Own delivery of investment targets for Partner Funds, with clear documentation and auditability.
- Integrate and maintain Investment Committee investment policies and LGPS Central's responsible investment approach.
- Manage risk and compliance in line with the Company's Risk and Compliance Framework.
- Run mandates to deliver value for money for Partner Funds and identify opportunities to improve risk‐adjusted returns after charges.
- Provide documented assurance that portfolios remain within the Prospectus, Investment Management Agreement and Company policies.
- Contribute to a high‐performing, collaborative, research‐based and responsible investing culture.
- Act as an ambassador for LGPS Central with Partner Funds, regulators, stakeholders and the wider investment community.
- Support creation of new external mandates and the retender or consolidation of existing mandates.
- Take ownership of trading, company meetings, manager selection, transitions, investor relations and strategy development tasks.
- Lead quarterly meetings with external managers to stay close to market developments and manager performance.
- Work with colleagues to create value‐enhancing multi‐manager portfolios.
Qualifications and Experience
- Strong active equities experience in an asset‐management or institutional setting.
- Experience of collaborative investment decision‐making.
- Strong skills in selecting investments, documenting rationale, portfolio construction and ongoing monitoring.
- Proven experience managing investment portfolios or strong experience in equity analysis and stock picking.
- Ability to evaluate performance and risk objectively.
- Proven capability in manager research and selection, with clear articulation of manager strategies.
- Experience across different segments of the equity landscape.
- Confidence engaging with external managers and building effective, long‐term relationships.
- Skill in constructing and managing multi‐manager portfolios.
- Holistic understanding of risk management within a multi‐manager structure.
- Degree level or equivalent qualification (CFA or other relevant investment experience).
- Must meet all requirements of a FCA approved person.
