We are the UK’s leading provider of anaerobic digestion solutions for agriculture and waste management industries, with more than 30 years of experience. We offer AD consultancy services, including DSEAR assessments, site surveys, process and equipment selection reviews, plant design and upgrades, and operational support for many AD plants across the UK.

Main Purpose of the Job

As a Process Engineer at Marches Biogas you will have end‑to‑end responsibility for developing design solutions and process improvements. You will undertake DSEAR assessments for both plants designed in‑house and those designed by external partners, participate in on‑site surveys, ongoing industry training, research, and see solutions through commissioning.

Specific Roles

  • Liaise with customers about process design requirements
  • Create process calculations
  • Create Process Flow Diagram
  • Create Piping & Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID)
  • Specify process equipment and record on process specification documentation
  • Participate in design reviews and risk assessments
  • Review and assess unfamiliar AD processes for optimisation or safety reviews

Key Areas of Responsibility

Design and Implementation
  • Design solutions to implement innovative ideas and support plant upgrades
  • Produce process and instrumentation diagrams to reflect agreed scope
  • Develop process specifications and associated equipment selection
  • Produce process calculations to confirm parameters and equipment sizing
  • Confirm pipework line sizes via head loss calculations to determine pump and compressor requirements
  • Input into all phases of a project, including initial business development and client/subcontractor liaison
  • Oversee building and commissioning of projects
Client Support
  • Full site surveys covering equipment selection and process assessments
  • Undertake site DSEAR assessments to highlight areas for improvement and ensure compliance with industry best practice

Skills and Experience

  • Ideally a degree in a relevant technical discipline, preferably engineering
  • At least 2 years of experience with a proven track record of creating process improvements
  • Understanding of the anaerobic digestion process
  • Familiarity with instrumentation functions and capabilities
  • Ability to create Engineering Line Diagrams and P&ID drawings
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD 2D
  • Excellent knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with head loss calculations and pump selection
  • Knowledge of CDM responsibilities and associated health & safety requirements in construction and design
  • Interest in all aspects of a project, both theoretical and practical
  • Good communication skills
  • Prepared to travel
