Responsibilities

  • Provide initial conceptual arrangement drawings for proposals and develop them into 3D models and 2D general arrangement drawings.
  • Provide mechanical design input to ensure design outputs are achieved on time, meet the design requirements, and achieve an acceptable level of quality.
  • Ensure designs are fully integrated and coordinated with the process engineer, civil designer and electrical engineer.
  • Read and review relevant specifications and incorporate feedback to ensure the mechanical design incorporates all requirements.
  • Identify potential technical improvements and cost savings for work packages.
  • Act as project engineer in managing and coordinating work packages and associated deliverables, including design, procurement and site liaison where appropriate.
  • Provide mechanical design support throughout the project – from feasibility outline design to detailed design, construction and commissioning.
  • Develop best-value, robust design solutions that can withstand external challenges.
  • Understand and communicate risks and assumptions associated with the project, supporting the design team in managing this risk; record risks and assumptions as the project progresses.
  • Offer technical guidance and governance for design review meetings and assessments to ensure risks and hazards are designed out or minimised to an acceptable level.
  • Share best practice and good/bad experiences with other designers and relevant staff.
  • Provide technical guidance during the installation phase to ensure that mechanical installation is safe and meets requirements.
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with client representatives, sites, office staff, suppliers and key subcontractors.
  • Record and share good and bad project experiences with the design team and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Perform any other duties consistent with the role, including ad-hoc projects.

Qualifications

  • Minimum BTEC / HNC Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience using Autodesk 3D and 2D CAD packages.
  • Ability to develop conceptual arrangement drawings and high-level architectural images at the proposal stage.
  • Ability to develop detailed pipework and mechanical support details.
  • Ability to adapt plans to changing circumstances.
  • Ability to follow designs through from initial outline phase to site installation and commissioning.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Prepared to travel.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Knowledge of legislative safety and design standards.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Team player and autonomous.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
