We're looking for an experienced Transport Lead to join the Silver X Group at our Alfreton depot. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role for someone who enjoys ownership, thrives on operational challenge, and takes pride in running an efficient, compliant transport operation. You'll take responsibility for your own area within the transport function, managing drivers, planning routes, controlling costs, and identifying opportunities to improve performance and profitability.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage daily transport operations, including route planning, fleet utilisation, and driver allocation.
- Ensure full compliance with Drivers' Hours, Working Time Directive, and tachograph legislation.
- Manage and support a team of drivers, including performance, attendance, and day-to-day issues.
- Identify opportunities to reduce empty mileage, improve efficiency, and increase revenue through effective planning and backloads.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
- Use transport and telematics systems to manage performance, costs, and compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement across safety, service, and profitability.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in transport planning or transport operations.
- Strong knowledge of Drivers' Hours, tachographs, and WTD legislation.
- Experience working with a fleet of 10+ vehicles (preferred).
- Confident people manager with excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Highly organised, able to prioritise and make decisions in a fast-moving environment.
- IT literate, with experience using TMS and telematics systems (Stream, Webfleet or similar).
- Commercially minded, with a focus on cost control and operational efficiency.
