Overview
At Totally Local Company an opportunity has arisen for a Highways Driver/Chargehand who possesses a professional demeanour, sound judgement and integrity to join our Highways team.
Responsibilities
- Plan and safely carry out repairs and improvements to a variety of built environment infrastructure such as modular paving, kerb installation, bituminous macadam laying, concreting, pipe laying, and hard and soft landscaping including drainage repair, excavation and shoring.
- Be aware of and have working knowledge and application of design drawings, specifications and civil engineering techniques.
- Apply safe methods of working through the use of personal protective equipment, correct manual handling, and use of small plant and equipment such as excavators, roller/breaker, compaction equipment, dumpers, motorised circular saws and other highways related equipment.
- Apply and abide by Health & Safety at Work Act, Road Traffic Act and apply safe methods of working to all activities.
- Drive a range of vehicles with a gross weight of up to and including 32 tonnes (Large Goods Vehicle (LGV)).
Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrate competency in working on minor civil engineering projects in a built and operational environment.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of applying design specifications and drawings in an operational environment.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge, understanding and application of all Health & Safety in an operational environment.
- Demonstrate operational record keeping including vehicle checks, accident reporting, near misses, delivery notes and requisition notes.
- Demonstrate delegation and allocating tasks to team members whilst receiving instruction from Senior Officers.
- Apply and ensure compliance with safe methods of working.
- Hold an NVQ Level 2 or above in Construction Operations.
- Hold a current Heavy Goods Licence class 2 or above, including Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC).
- Communicate effectively.
- Show customer focus.
- Demonstrate effective team working.
