We are seeking an experienced Senior Cost Manager who has worked in a senior capacity within a main contractor to lead cost planning, risk management, and commercial governance using our target cost model, provide strategic cost advice to clients within Social Housing, mentor junior staff, and support business efficiency and innovation. Work on projects including residential, social housing and more, with flexibility of hybrid working.

Key Focus:

  • Lead as Senior Cost Manager on key accounts and manage strategic client relationships.
  • Implement the 4i target cost model, ensuring effective cost planning, risk management, and commercial governance.
  • Provide strategic advice on cost, value and risk to clients.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior team members.
  • Align cost management practices with business goals to drive efficiency and innovation.
  • Help secure new business opportunities and commissions for 4i Solutions/Baily Garner.
  • Develop and enhance BG/4i’s cost management service for new and existing clients.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders to support growth and reputation.
  • Conduct commercial assessments and audits; advise clients on contractor submissions.
  • Deliver strategic cost management to assure value for money and inform decisions.
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to junior cost managers, apprentices, and students.
  • Support resource planning and workload management for the team.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings, both in-person and virtually.
  • Apply BG/4i’s unique services to meet client needs and create opportunities.
  • Identify and inform on opportunities for service innovation.
  • Engage proactively in strategic meetings to resolve commercial issues.
  • Produce reports using Excel, Power BI, and BG/4i databases.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure positive client and contractor partnerships.

Ideal Candidate:

  • MRICS (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) status is advantageous.
  • Quantity Surveying Degree or equivalent.
  • Proven experience (5 years+) as a Senior Cost Manager/Quantity Surveyor or similar within a Main Contractor.
  • Proven experience administering/managing a project with a target cost commercial model.
  • Proven experience in delivering large-scale construction projects.
  • Proven experience in leading project teams and mentoring junior individuals.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong understanding of Quantity Surveying practices, procurements and contractual delivery approaches.
  • Strong understanding and experience of Open Book/Target Cost Model approach and collaborative contracting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Highly motivated and organised in their approach to work.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
