About the Role
SEMH Maths Teacher – Reports to: Deputy Head Teacher. Full‑time, permanent, based at White Trees Independent School, salary £33,500–£52,000.
Responsibilities
- Teach pupils with Education Health and Care Plans across a range of SEN needs, especially Autistic Spectrum Disorders and related conditions.
- Deliver high quality teaching and learning for all pupils.
- Accountable for attainment and progress of all pupils.
- Support pupils to make progress across the curriculum using differentiation.
- Produce pupil SEN passports, monitor social communication development, contribute to provision mapping, annual reviews and ILP’s.
- Provide pastoral support and guidance for all pupils.
- Support staff training to meet pupil needs.
- Guide the work of any tutors, Teaching Assistants and Higher‑Level Teaching Assistants.
- Set clear learning objectives, write Schemes of Work, medium and short term planning.
- Use data to plan lessons and learning materials to motivate and support pupils to make good progress.
- Set challenging yet realistic expectations for behaviour, learning, motivation and presentation of work.
- Promote and develop literacy and numeracy skills throughout teaching and learning activities.
- Provide intervention activities for students requiring support or additional challenge.
- Manage behaviour in line with the school's Behaviour Policy.
- Maintain teaching rooms, resources and equipment in good order, ensuring health & safety and security.
- Use ICT and other technologies as learning tools.
- Maintain a stimulating learning environment, including high‑quality displays.
- Mark, assess, and return pupils' work in line with school policy; provide constructive feedback.
- Keep high quality records to track pupil progress using data and assessment records.
- Report pupil attainment, progress and assessment results within the school's recording system.
- Set and mark examinations, assessments and coursework as assigned.
- Attend Parent/Teacher events and individual meetings to inform parents/carers of attainment and progress.
- Use information on pupils with additional needs to ensure curriculum access and support.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Undertake professional development as per the performance management structure.
- Support and implement all relevant teaching and learning area policies.
- Act as a role model for dress, attendance, punctuality and general conduct.
- Ensure all deadlines are met as published in advance.
- Undertake duties necessary for smooth running of the school, e.g., emergency cover.
- Promote safeguarding and welfare of children and young persons.
- Promote good attendance and punctuality per the school's Attendance Policy.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- QTS or equivalent combined with SEMH/SEN experience.
- Experience with needs including ASD/SEMH/SEN.
- Proven track record of obtaining positive student outcomes.
- Innovative, passionate and pro‑active approach.
- Experience in developing intuitive lesson plans and curriculum.
