To ensure the identification and effective implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of all Technical and Quality systems relevant to the asbestos management department, covering surveying, training delivery, and air monitoring activities. Driving higher standards, enhancing compliance, and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the department. Set all standards across H&S, Quality & technical ensuring that all is being delivered to that standard. Take appropriate action to resolve root causes of issues and support to continually improve in all areas. Demonstrate effective H&S & quality control practices, taking appropriate action where failures in systems or team members occur. Ensure that all communication, documents, letters, emails and any physical tasks are undertaken by you to the highest standard that you can achieve. Ensure through being aware and vigilant that all other team members are delivering the same exceptional level of quality.
To ensure that all practices and procedures comply fully with and to ensure we maintain (but not limited to): ISO/IEC 17020 (for inspection activities), ISO/IEC 17025 (for testing and air monitoring), UKAS RG8 and RG4, ILAC P15 and G19, and HSG264 and HSG248 guidance. These standards must be embedded in the operational systems and daily routines.
Role & Responsibilities (Accountabilities)
- Quality & Technical Oversight: Oversee the day-to-day execution of all elements within the Quality and Technical Manual, ensuring that document control, distribution, version management and accessibility is maintained to the highest standard. Provide clear, continuous guidance to all staff on the application of quality systems and policies, ensuring consistent awareness and adherence to the latest requirements and best practices across the department. Proactively investigate all technical or quality issues, client complaints or internal non-conformances. Root cause analysis is to be undertaken and documented thoroughly, with timely implementation of corrective or preventive actions as required. Develop and maintain an annual internal audit schedule for all asbestos management activities. Personally conduct, or oversee, detailed audits and inspections across the service areas and departments, ensuring records are maintained and findings acted upon. Prepare improvement plans based on audit results, industry changes or performance gaps, and drive them through to full implementation and review. Support and mentor asbestos surveyors / analysts in all aspects of quality performance, technical knowledge, and procedural compliance. This includes periodic assessments and structured improvement support. Manage and maintain all internal authorisation records and the staff training matrix. Ensure all team members hold current and relevant certifications and ensure expired or expiring training is addressed proactively.
- Monday Boards: For any task where a Monday board is used for administration purposes ensure all boards are kept up to date and filled out correctly leaving no blank fields. Maintain oversight of all aspect including auditing required by UKAS and internal procedures, ensuring surveys are conducted, reviewed, and documented within expected timescales. Liaise effectively with UKAS and other relevant accreditation or regulatory bodies in support of compliance requirements, assessments, and audits. Prepare for UKAS visits and oversee implementation of post-visit actions.
- Air Monitoring Compliance: Ensure that all air monitoring activities meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 and that documentation, procedures, and analysis are conducted to UKAS standards. Maintain oversight of all air monitoring methods, ensuring all activities are completed and recorded in accordance with the relevant quality systems. Collaborate with technical consultants and analysts to ensure best practices are applied, and continuous professional development is supported within the monitoring function.
- Training Delivery and Management: Deliver technical training courses and awareness sessions to both internal team members and external clients in line with HSE and UKATA standards. Conduct face-fitting testing for RPE and ensure training records are properly maintained. Oversee and contribute to the development of training course content and delivery methodology, ensuring course material remains up to date with legislative, regulatory, and best practice developments. Provide mentoring and coaching to team members seeking tutor roles, including conducting audits of training delivery and tutor competency assessments.
- Trainee Line Management: Line manage all asbestos management trainees until they have been signed off as fully competent by the relevant authorised person. Maintain a structured programme of weekly meetings with each trainee to review their development, training progress, performance against competencies, and exposure to varied project types. Work closely with operations management team and lead surveyor to ensure trainees are rotated through diverse projects that support their professional growth and technical capability. Monitor and document trainee progress, identify gaps in knowledge or experience, and ensure tailored action plans are developed and reviewed. Once a trainee is deemed competent, ensure a formal handover of line management responsibilities to the appropriate member of the operational management team.
- Additional Responsibilities: Promote the services of the business at all times, identifying opportunities for further commercial development or client engagement. Attend and chair monthly quality meetings. Record detailed minutes and ensure all follow-up actions are completed within agreed timelines. Ensure confidentiality of all client information and maintain strict adherence to data protection and company security protocols. Work collaboratively across departments to support the company's wider operational, safety, and compliance goals.
