We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Precision Tool Fitter to join our expanding team. The ideal candidate will take great pride in their work and be responsible for mechanical assembly, testing and acceptance of tool units that produce foil caps at rates of up to 750 per minute. Typically, a tool unit will take around one week to complete and the fitter builds and tests the complete unit from start to finish. The units are incorporated in our range of bespoke capping and sealing equipment which are sold worldwide. The average tool unit will be used for up to 25 million cycles in its lifetime before reconditioning. The ideal candidate would have press tooling or precision engineering experience combined with excellent machining and hand fitting skills. All components for the units are pre-manufactured prior to the start of the build. On units being refurbished a certain amount of rework of existing parts may be required, part of the build requires machining skills including surface grinding, honing, turning and milling all to close tolerances. Whilst the majority of the build is assembly all of the employees in this role at present have a tool making background, although this is not essential it gives some idea of the level of finesse required to perform the role effectively.

Key Duties

  • To fit, assemble, and test new tool units and all associated parts and assemblies.
  • To ensure that all parts and assemblies are correctly fitted and assembled together in accordance with the agreed tolerances and procedures.
  • To build new tool unit assemblies and repair and refurbish existing tool units to an as new condition.
  • To carry out testing of the tool units in accordance with agreed procedures.
  • To assist with the building or repair of complete press assemblies when required.
  • To work as part of the highly skilled mechanical assembly team.
  • Work in accordance with Company procedures and specific guidelines and terms of reference at all times.
  • Carry out any such tasks as required from time to time, provided they are within the competence of the postholder.
