Location: Dash Express Exeter, Hill Barton Depot, EX5 1DR

Reports to: Operations Manager

Pay: £16.00 per hour. Enhanced shift rate when trunking. £1,000 joining bonus.

Purpose: Dash Express, a member of the Palletways network, is a leading logistics provider in the South-West, committed to delivering exceptional service and operational excellence. As our HGV Cover Driver, you'll play a vital role in keeping our operation moving. You will be a skilled and adaptable HGV driver who thrives on variety and challenge, working across Class 1 and Class 2 vehicles, day and night trunking, and collection and delivery routes. You will be at the heart of our operation, providing essential flexibility and reliability, stepping in wherever needed to ensure our customers receive a consistent, high-quality service.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate Class 1 and Class 2 HGV vehicles as required.
  • Complete collection and delivery duties, including pallet multi-drop routes.
  • Carry out night trunking and day trunking runs between depots.
  • Carry out daily vehicle checks and report any defects promptly.
  • Ensure accurate loading, securing, and unloading of palletised goods, following health & safety and company standards.
  • Safely operate a pallet truck to load and unload consignments.
  • Use Handheld Terminal (HHT) for scanning consignments and reporting discrepancies.
  • Adhere to driver hours, tachograph, and Working Time Directive regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with the operations team regarding delays, issues, or route changes.
  • Ensure vehicle cleanliness and refuelling at the end of each shift.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, site rules, and health & safety procedures.
  • Provide a professional, customer‑focused service when dealing with clients and customers.

What We're Looking For:

  • Valid Class 1 (C+E) licence and up‑to‑date CPC qualification.
  • Previous experience in HGV collection and delivery and/or trunking pallet driving.
  • Strong understanding of driver hours regulations and road safety.
  • Good time management and reliability.
  • Strong customer service skills and professional communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • All staff must pass a basic DBS check.

Additional Benefits:

  • Joining bonus of £1,000 (£500 paid after 1 month, £500 paid after 3 months).
  • 5.6 weeks holiday entitlement including bank holidays, increasing 1 day per year of service up to 5 years.
