Great Yorkshire Event Centre, a leading venue for large scale events on the edge of Harrogate, is seeking an Events Manager to work as part of the operations team to ensure the continued success of the organisation. The role involves working closely with the Senior Event Manager and Deputy Event Managers to deliver safe and successful events, under the leadership of the Venue Manager.

Working hours: 5 days, 37.5 hours per week, Monday-Sunday.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be an integral part of the Events team and contribute to overall organisational goals.
  • Display the PROUD values of the Society and act as an ambassador of those values.
  • Support the operations team in the successful delivery of events; mentor the Deputy Event Managers as required.
  • Manage all Contractors, Sub-Contractors and Casual Staff as required by events.
  • Ensure the venue is presented to standard, assisting with cleaning and preparation of exhibition floors and other areas.
  • Prepare the venue for client arrival, including setting out furniture and installing electrical/communications cables and AV equipment.
  • Support sales team with show rounds and proposals by providing operational knowledge and guidance.
  • Collaborate with the Events Team to ensure efficiency and control costs to deliver expected margins.
  • Monitor and improve Health & Safety standards where possible.
  • Support the Venue Manager with onboarding, training and development of team members.
  • Encourage a one-team environment and identify opportunities to improve operational performance and visitor experience.
  • Ensure alcohol service complies with the Premises Licence and meets expected standards.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience in events planning, management, and operational delivery.
  • Experience in client and stakeholder management.
  • Experience in leading teams.
  • Event-related qualifications; Health & Safety qualifications.
  • Experience in commercial negotiations and contract management.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to identify issues and develop innovative solutions; influential personality and superb interpersonal skills.
  • Outstanding leadership, excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Demonstrated project management; strong presentation, courteous and professional demeanor.
  • IT proficiency: Microsoft Office, Event Management software (e.g., E500) and CAD.
  • Focus, thoroughness, attention to detail; natural problem solver.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills; ability to analyse performance and improve where necessary.
  • Calm under pressure with practical event delivery skills, including: driving license, Personal Licence (training provided), Accredited SIA Door Supervisor (training provided), First Aider (training provided), Fire Warden (training provided), Masted Forklift/Telehandler (training provided), PAF 3a & 3b (Scissor Lift & Cherry Picker) (training provided), Manual Handling; knowledge of temporary electrical installations; installation of networking, broadband, wi-fi & telephone communications; installation of AV & PA systems; venue setup for various events including furniture and equipment; cleaning and waste management.
