We have an opportunity for a Maintenance Operative to work in Harlow across two homes. As a Maintenance Operative you should be a general all‑rounder with excellent attention to detail, a positive can‑do attitude, and a love of client‑facing work to provide a great customer experience. You will be part of the regional maintenance team supporting 11 homes throughout the Essex region. Excelcare is a family‑owned Care Home group established for over 34 years. We provide the highest standards of care to older people with a range of needs including dementia, physical disabilities, and mental health issues.
Working Hours
45 hours a week from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday. There will be an on‑call rota shared among the maintenance team. To apply you must have a full UK driving licence and your own vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the premises and grounds are maintained to a high standard and provide the people living in our care homes a safe, comfortable, and pleasant environment.
- Maintain all records in accordance with company policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Carry out routine checks and inspections and report on any issues (e.g., Loler testing).
- Adhere to company policies and procedures, paying particular attention to health and safety and fire policies.
- Ensure all work complies with property and facilities legislation.
- Support the induction of new team members as required.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Order and check stock when delivered.
- Co‑operate with Home Managers, teams, and residents.
- Carry out any additional duties as requested.
- Support homes during evenings and weekends on a shared on‑call rota; call‑outs are paid.
- Undertake any additional training and development that would be beneficial for your own development.
What we are looking for
- Previous experience in a handy person/maintenance/painting, decorating, or gardening role.
- Your own basic tools; materials are provided.
- A full UK driving licence and your own vehicle (mileage paid via expenses).
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Completion of an enhanced DBS (Criminal Records Check).
