Are you a passionate and skilled chef who wants to make a real difference in people's lives? We are looking for a caring and reliable Care Home Chef to join our team at Durham Careline. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing nutritious, balanced, and delicious meals for our residents, taking into account their special dietary requirements, medical needs, and personal preferences. This is more than just cooking — it's about contributing to the well-being and quality of life of our residents. You will play a key role in creating a welcoming and comfortable environment by providing meals that not only meet nutritional needs but also bring enjoyment and comfort to those living in the care home.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals that are healthy, balanced, and tailored to the specific dietary needs of residents.
- Consider special dietary requirements, including medical conditions, allergies, religious or cultural preferences, and individual likes and dislikes.
- Plan, prepare, and serve meals within budgetary limits while maintaining high quality.
- Ensure all meals are prepared in compliance with food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment, adhering to EHO standards.
- Manage stock, order supplies efficiently, and minimise waste through effective portion control and planning.
- Work collaboratively with care staff to ensure mealtimes are a positive experience for residents.
- Provide support and guidance to junior kitchen staff where applicable.
What You Need
- Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 (desirable but not essential if willing to obtain).
- Full driving licence and access to your own vehicle (essential).
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in cooking or catering.
- Caring, trustworthy, and patient nature, with a genuine desire to make a difference.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Friendly, approachable personality and a professional attitude.
