Role Overview: Are you looking for a career that combines technical problem-solving with hands‑on work? Northern Security Systems has been a staple of the Cumbria business community since 2003. We are an independent, leading provider of fire detection and security solutions around the North of England and South West Scotland. We take professional development seriously; we have hired apprentices who have successfully worked through their training to become fully qualified engineers within our team.
The Role: What will you be doing? As an Apprentice, you won't just be watching from the sidelines. You'll be out in the field from day one, supporting our senior engineers on projects across the Cumbria area. Your day‑to‑day will include:
- Learning the Trade: Assisting in the installation and maintenance of CCTV, Intruder Alarms, Fire Detection, and Access Control systems.
- Hands‑on Tech: Developing your skills in wiring, mounting hardware, and eventually commissioning smart security systems.
- Safety First: Learning to work safely and effectively within British Standards and Health & Safety guidelines.
- Customer Service: Representing the company as a friendly, professional face for our clients.
- Professional Growth: Completing your formal apprenticeship coursework and system‑based reporting with accuracy and pride.
What We're Looking For:
- Education: GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths, English and Science grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent.
- A Can-Do Attitude: You're proactive, eager to learn, and not afraid to get stuck in.
- Communication Skills: You can talk to customers and colleagues clearly and professionally.
- Reliability: You're punctual, organised, and take pride in your workmanship.
- Technical Interest: A natural curiosity for how things work (experience in DIY, electronics, or tech is a bonus!).
- Desirable: A full UK driving licence is highly desirable (or a clear plan to obtain one shortly).
Why Join Northern Security Systems: Work for a well‑established, independent company with a deep‑rooted local presence. No two days are the same, one day you'll be on a small residential site, the next, a large‑scale commercial project. Work directly alongside our experienced engineers who are dedicated to your development. We view our apprentices as our future senior engineers. Upon completion, there are clear paths for career progression.
