Owens Group is a fast‑developing multisite organisation with a large diverse customer base. We are recruiting a Transport Planner for our Cardiff Depot.
Shifts: Monday – Friday. Rotating weekly schedule – week 1: 06:00‑15:00, week 2: 10:00‑19:00.
Responsibilities:
- Carry out tasks largely unsupervised to cost and quality standards.
- Plan ahead – tasks and resources.
- Liaise with internal and external customers to resolve problems.
- Collect, analyse and distribute information/data.
- Provide professional/specialist advice both internally and externally.
- Develop relationships with external customers.
- Specify and ensure levels of support service are in place.
- Prioritise and co‑ordinate workloads, ensuring timely completion of responsibilities.
- Maintain budgets and successful working partnerships with customers, internal and external.
- Deliver the right advice in a timely manner and practise safe working procedures.
- Work with customers, suppliers, drivers and other traffic desks to plan routes and schedule delivery times for smooth operation.
- Prioritise workload and manage driver briefings and de‑briefings.
- Communicate and monitor with other depots within the company.
- Use strong organisational skills for planning schedules, journeys and loads.
- Proactively work to reduce late deliveries and missed time slots.
- Maintain and monitor compliance, eliminating infringements.
- Ensure all drivers are aware of SAFED and work to improve SAFED achievements to goals.
- Participate as part of employee health and safety responsibilities.
- Ensure vehicles and trailers are available in a timely manner to meet compliance and inspection requirements.
- Provide general support to management as needed.
- Book driver agency staff depending on workload.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Experience working at a similar level.
- CPC holder desirable (National) – not essential.
- Job‑specific qualification preferred.
- Experience in traffic management and dealing with VOSA compliance.
- Problem‑solving and logical thinking abilities.
- Capacity to work unsupervised, manage time and prioritise work to meet tight deadlines.
- Computer skills – Stirling (desirable), Excel proficiency.
- Good communication skills and the ability to interact at all levels.
- Geographical knowledge and team player with a flexible ‘Can‑Do’ attitude.
