Our Media is a leading special‑interest content business based in Bristol, home of the BBC Science Focus magazine. We are looking for a creative and ambitious Deputy Digital Editor to help grow the UK's largest science magazine.
Responsibilities
- Generate ideas for timely news, features, and stories tied to the day’s talking points.
- Lead the production of a monthly digital issue, commissioning and editing standout features.
- Edit and publish news stories and short and long‑form features, writing when required.
- Curate and contribute to news content across platforms, including supporting the print magazine.
- Support the Digital Editor with day‑to‑day running of the site, stepping up to lead when needed.
- Ensure all content is accurate, engaging, and meets editorial standards.
Qualifications
- Driven journalist able to develop original content ideas and angles that work across our digital channels.
- Web literate with strong understanding of how to create engaging digital content for Google, Apple News, etc.
- Comfortable working with CMS and digital publishing tools.
- Strong sense of what makes a great science story for BBC Science Focus.
- Confident communicator, able to collaborate with internal and external teams.
- Ability to chase experts and interviewees to gain exclusive insights.
- Visual thinker, able to integrate data, images, infographics, and copy.
- Experience writing and editing for magazines and/or websites.
- Organised and proactive, able to juggle multiple stories, deadlines, and workflows.
- Familiar with collaborative organisation systems for editorial workflows.
Preferred
- Background in science or science journalism.
- Confidence with Photoshop and other Adobe software.
- Experience managing production process behind digital issues.
