Position Summary: Senior Ecological Consultant (based in and around Birmingham). Key responsibilities include preparing tenders, managing projects, delivering technical work, and fostering client relationships in line with company vision.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage large, complex ecological projects from inception to completion.
- Handle technically challenging tasks such as EPSL applications, EcIAs and HRA assessments.
- Deliver high‑quality reports and outputs within project deadlines and budget constraints.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring trust and satisfaction.
- Document professional experience and work towards protected species licences.
- Take ownership of survey quality by leading and directing the field team.
- Communicate effectively with project managers and team leads regarding critical project developments.
- Maintain active membership with CIEEM.
- Act as line manager or technical lead for a small team of Ecological Consultants and Assistant Ecologists, as required.
Qualifications:
- Experienced ecologist with an ecological or related subject degree.
- Technical competence and in‑depth knowledge of ecology, legislation and survey techniques.
- Advanced field skills in one or more specialist areas and holding relevant protected species licences.
- Clean, valid UK driving licence and access to a personal car suitable for business use.
- Based in the UK with the legal right to work.
- Preferred: ornithological skills, botany skills or ability to hold mitigation licences (not essential).
Salary & Benefits:
Salary: from £34,000 per annum (dependent on skillset).
