Overview
As Engineering Team Manager at Ocado’s Erith CFC, you’ll lead Engineers, Technicians and Trainees to deliver high standards in a 24/7 automated environment. You will assess and develop your team, allocate workload, and manage disciplinary matters while driving pace and accuracy across mechanical and electrical domains. You’ll stay hands-on as an experienced engineer and shape performance in a fast-moving FMCG setting. This role couples leadership with frontline engineering, enabling impactful decisions that support Ocado’s automated fulfilment platform.

Responsibilities
- Lead a team of Engineers, Technicians and Trainees and support their development
- Assess capabilities and identify development opportunities
- Allocate workload and manage daily operations
- Handle disciplinary issues and maintain safety and standards
- Provide hands-on engineering input in both mechanical and electrical streams
- Drive pace, accuracy, and standards across the CFC
- Support 24/7 shift operations with effective team coordination
- Make critical decisions on automation hardware/software as needed
Key requirements
- Experience leading engineers in an automated FMCG environment
- Strong decision-making capabilities in fast-paced roles
- Proven technical ability in automation hardware and software
- Understanding of production, picking and storage MHE systems
- Computer literacy and experience with CMMS
- Willingness to learn and apply creative problem-solving
- Commitment to health and safety, including working at height
- Engineering HNC or equivalent degree preferred; NVQ3 may be acceptable
