Overview
As Director of Tax you will lead Ocado Group's global tax function, guiding compliance, governance, and reporting across UK and international entities. You will drive a future-ready tax operation by embedding AI, automation and intelligent data workflows while preserving commercial rigour and strategic counsel for a listed global group. You will head a multi-disciplinary team, promote digital empowerment, and partner with Finance and IT to shape the tax technology roadmap. This role offers strategic influence at the executive level and the chance to redefine how tax functions operate at scale. Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary tax team across UK and international matters
- Foster a culture of digital empowerment and continuous learning
- Define the tax technology roadmap and deploy AI/automation tools
- Automate tax processes to reduce manual tasks and improve efficiency
- Maintain tax compliance across direct, employment, and indirect taxes globally
- Strengthen tax risk and controls framework; provide early visibility to CFO and Audit Committee
- Deliver commercial tax advice on new businesses, locations, and transactions
- Manage external relationships with HMRC and other tax authorities; oversee advisor relationships
- Oversee transfer pricing and international tax strategies for Ocado Solutions
- Engage in tax optimisation planning and horizon scanning for informed decision making
Key requirements
- Qualified tax or accounting professional with substantial post-qualification tax experience
- Proven track record leading a tax function in fast-paced, dynamic, or high-growth international business
- Automation-first mindset with vision for AI-driven tax workflows
- Deep technical capability in UK and international direct/indirect tax, including transfer pricing and IFRS tax reporting
- Strong leadership and communication skills; ability to translate tax/tech concepts for senior stakeholders
- Experience leading tax technology, automation, or digital transformation initiatives
- Knowledge of SaaS and asset-heavy business environments
- Experience preparing R&D claims (and overseas equivalents)
