About the role

The Finance Accountant (FA) is responsible for delivering the financial close activities and reporting financial results for their nominated area. These key responsibilities involve managing core transactional accounting, including journals, allocations, and Balance Sheet reconciliations. The role also entails delivering accurate and timely financial information for nominated areas during period ends, in line with Group policies. Additionally, it requires collaboration with Commercial Finance business partners to ensure financial accuracy, providing crucial support during half-year and year-end accounting and audits, and identifying and supporting approved improvement initiatives.

Accountabilities

  • Prepare monthly Management Accounts for nominated area, adhering to the period end close calendar timelines
  • Undertake transactional activities and thorough review to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data
  • Analyse and understand variances to Budget/Forecast and provide commentary on key movement drivers
  • Assist in the preparation of the monthly reporting pack and present results to Commercial Finance business partners
  • Complete Balance Sheet reconciliations to an auditable standard and in a timely manner, resolving discrepancies to supporting documentation and highlighting risks and opportunities to the Finance Manager at the earliest opportunity.
  • Partner closely with Commercial Finance business partners to aid understanding of financial performance and enable informed decision making
  • Support the half year and year end process ensuring audit requests are dealt with swiftly, and audit adjustments processed in a controlled manner in line with guidelines
  • Support in providing disclosures in the annual report and statutory accounts related to Group Operations
  • Raise issues with senior management and assist in resolution
  • Ensure Group accounting policies and practices are implemented and adhered to
  • Proactively identify opportunities to standardise, streamline and improve processes and analysis
  • Support ad hoc requests and project work
  • Work with, and support, the SFA and Finance Manager to improve the service offering
  • Relevant financial qualifications (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) and understanding of relevant regulatory environments
  • An understanding of core financial processes and system skills – Excel, Oracle
  • Knowledge of accounting, and reporting standards & principles
  • Experience in a fast-paced similar sized environment
