Code for Life operates like a start-up business within Ocado, so you\\\’ll be making sure it adheres to best practice and you will work closely with legal, security, data protection, and IP teams. As an Engineering Manager in the Code for Life team, you’ll gain unique experience leading across technology, education, and brand-building within a start-up environment. Your day-to-day involves guiding a skilled team to deliver impactful educational products like Rapid Router and Python Den, while shaping the product roadmap and ensuring technical excellence. Beyond engineering leadership, you’ll collaborate across the business to build the visibility, reputation, and reach of our products, driving marketing initiatives, strengthening partnerships, and championing the team’s work both internally and externally. This is a role where you’ll stretch your skills in product strategy, marketing, and stakeholder engagement, all while developing as a leader who makes a global impact in education.
This is a big role that mixes engineering leadership, product management, and business development! From an engineering perspective, the role is responsible for driving progress and encouraging tasks that automate the work as much as possible, freeing up the team to do what matters.
About you
- Passion for education and a strong desire to inspire the next generation of engineers.
- Tracking and reporting project progress, especially in software development.
- Experience with reporting and digging into information.
- Comfortable leading meetings and video calls with internal and external partners.
- Solid knowledge of software engineering practices, especially agile methods and making decisions with data.
- Experience mentoring or managing others.
- Spotting opportunities for innovation, saving money, and identifying risks.
