About The Team And The Role

You will be joining the Enterprise Solutions Team as the technical authority and strategic leader for integration at Ocado Retail. This role is focused on high‑level architectural design and oversight, ensuring our applications, platforms, and data pipelines work together securely, efficiently, and at scale. You will be instrumental in shaping our technology landscape, working on exciting projects that include defining our MuleSoft Anypoint Platform strategy and designing hybrid cloud architectures with AWS and GCP.

This is a key strategic role where you will grow your skills in enterprise‑level governance, strategic planning, and sophisticated vendor management.

What You’ll Do

  • Strategic Architecture & Design: Define and enforce enterprise‑wide integration standards, patterns (Pub/Sub, Request‑Response, Batch), and best practices. Own the MuleSoft Anypoint Platform strategy, including API‑Led Connectivity and C4E (Center for Enablement) maturity. Design hybrid cloud architectures that leverage AWS and GCP native services (e.g., Lambda, Pub/Sub, SQS, Eventarc) alongside Mulesoft.
  • Implementation Oversight & Vendor Management: Lead and govern the implementation of integration solutions, primarily executed by third‑party development partners and internal teams. Act as the final escalation point for complex technical challenges across project lifecycles. Conduct architectural reviews and code audits to ensure performance, scalability, and security compliance.
  • Process Automation & Optimisation: Proactively identify opportunities for automation and direct the teams responsible for delivering efficient workflow solutions. Oversee the continuous monitoring of system health, performance, and integration stability to ensure optimal operation.
  • Governance & Security: Define and govern naming conventions, versioning protocols, and deployment guidelines for all integrations. Ensure that data privacy and security standards are embedded in all system connections and data exchanges, and validate compliance in all third‑party deliverables.
  • Strategic Planning & Enablement: Develop and maintain the integration roadmap, ensuring it is aligned with the broader business and digital strategy as outlined in our IT Roadmap. Collaborate with Business Teams, Solution Managers and Key Stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical architecture for implementation teams.

Who You Are

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience: Extensive experience in technology architecture or integration engineering, with a significant focus on architectural design and strategy.
  • Vendor & Project Management: Proven experience managing and directing third‑party development partners, offshore teams, and external vendors. Strong skills in project oversight, quality assurance, and holding partners accountable to technical standards and timelines.
  • Technical Acumen: Expert‑level knowledge of integration patterns and platforms (MuleSoft experience desired). Expert‑level knowledge of Cloud IaaS, iPaaS platforms (GCP, AWS). A strong understanding of modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Node.js) and SQL, sufficient to effectively govern development work and perform code reviews. Deep understanding of API protocols (REST, SOAP, GraphQL) and authentication methods (OAuth 2.0, JWT).
  • Leadership & Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively articulate architectural vision and manage stakeholder relationships. Strong problem‑solving skills to define and resolve complex technical and organisational challenges. Proven ability to work autonomously and proactively identify areas of opportunity.
