About Us

Our mission is to deliver joy in every shop, through unbeatable choice, unrivalled service, and reassuringly good value. We’re Ocado Retail, a market‑leading joint venture between Ocado Group and M&S, and the world’s largest dedicated online supermarket, ocado.com.

About The Team And The Role

As part of our strategic development of product management within ORL, we are creating a dedicated Product Pod for the Ocado Hub. This new, agile team will own the development and innovation roadmap for a suite of critical supplier‑facing applications, including Supplier Hub, Promotions, JBP, Ads Manager, and Beet (Ocado’s self‑serve data platform). We are looking for a skilled and insightful Data Product Developer to join this new pod. You will be responsible for designing, developing and maintaining intuitive, effective self‑serve data solutions. Your work will primarily focus on our Beet data platform but will extend across all applications as required. You will transform complex data into clear, actionable insights for our suppliers and internal teams, enabling data‑driven decisions across the business.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain insightful, user‑friendly, and performant dashboards and reports.
  • Translate complex business requirements from suppliers and internal stakeholders into effective self‑serve data solutions.
  • Optimise and maintain the existing suite of dashboards and the platforms while contributing to the technical evaluation of future solutions.
  • Champion data visualisation best practices, ensuring all solutions are intuitive, easy to understand, and drive clear actions.
  • Develop and iterate on data models to support robust and scalable reporting.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers to define data requirements and ensure data pipelines are reliable and accurate.
  • Participate actively in the team's agile sprint‑based workflow, from requirements gathering and design through to testing and deployment.
  • Work with front‑end and back‑end developers to integrate and embed data visualisations within the wider Ocado Hub applications.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the team's data practices, governance, and tooling.
  • Work closely with the Product Manager and key stakeholders (e.g. suppliers, Buyers) to understand their data needs, gather feedback, and iterate on solutions.
  • Act as a subject‑matter expert on data visualisation, providing support and training to end‑users to drive adoption.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex data queries, performance issues, and visualisation bugs.

Essential

  • Proven experience as a Data Visualisation Developer, Business Intelligence Developer, Analytics Engineer or in a similar analytical role.
  • Strong expertise in a major data visualisation platform, especially Tableau.
  • Excellent understanding of data visualisation principles and best practices – you know how to tell a compelling story with data.
  • Proficiency in writing and optimising complex SQL queries.
  • Experience in gathering and translating business requirements into technical data solutions.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to communicate complex data concepts to non‑technical audiences.

Desirable

  • Experience with other data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Looker, ThoughtSpot, Qlik) or data notebook platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS) and their data services (e.g., BigQuery, Redshift).
  • Understanding of data engineering concepts (e.g., ETL/ELT, data warehousing, data modelling).
  • Experience in the e‑commerce or retail sectors.
  • A curious mindset with a passion for learning new technologies and staying current with industry trends.
  • Demonstrable expertise in Agile software development methodologies and working in product‑focused teams.
