About The Role

12 month FTC. Code for Life is Ocado’s tech for good initiative, dedicated to leveraging Ocado\’s technology expertise, through the efforts of our core team and volunteers, to empower teachers in an increasingly digital world and develop a diverse, inclusive, and engaged future workforce. We are committed to creating a more digitally literate and inclusive society, making a profound positive impact within the community, and aligning our efforts directly with Ocado\’s core values, particularly our commitment to education, innovation, and community enrichment. Our mission is to build foundational Python skills, nurture internal talent, and inspire the next generation of technologists. You\’ll be leading the Code for Life team, making sure everything continues to run smoothly.

Code for Life operates like a start-up business within Ocado, so you\’ll be making sure it adheres to best practice and you will work closely with legal, security, data protection, and IP teams. This is an amazing opportunity for an Engineering Manager to get more experience, keep things engaging and inspiring to the learners and teachers, keep customer data safe and streamlined, keep productivity high, keep the team happy, and follow the Code for Life roadmap, hitting our objectives. We work in a collaborative, innovative, fast-paced environment and love what we do.

As an Engineering Manager in the Code for Life team, you’ll gain unique experience leading across technology, education, and brand-building within a start-up environment. Your day-to-day involves guiding a skilled team to deliver impactful educational products like Rapid Router and Python Den, while shaping the product roadmap and ensuring technical excellence. Beyond engineering leadership, you’ll collaborate across the business to build the visibility, reputation, and reach of our products, driving marketing initiatives, strengthening partnerships, and championing the team’s work both internally and externally. This is a role where you’ll stretch your skills in product strategy, marketing, and stakeholder engagement, all while developing as a leader who makes a global impact in education.

This is a big role that mixes engineering leadership, product management, and business development. From an engineering perspective, the role is responsible for driving progress and encouraging tasks that automate the work as much as possible, freeing up the team to do what matters.
