About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Water Hygiene Engineer / Legionella Risk Assessor to join our growing Water Compliance team.
This is a varied role combining routine water hygiene services with Legionella risk assessments across a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial and public sector properties.
Working independently, you'll support our clients in maintaining compliance with current legislation and industry guidance while delivering a high standard of customer service.
The role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced Water Hygiene Engineer looking to broaden their technical expertise, or for an established Risk Assessor seeking a varied operational role.
The role ensures full compliance with UK legislation and guidance, delivering clear, actionable recommendations to Genex clients to maintain safe and compliant systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out Legionella Risk Assessments in accordance with ACOP L8, HSG274 guidelines.
- Inspect domestic hot and cold water systems across a variety of client sites.
- Produce accurate schematic drawings where required.
- Identify risks including dead legs, poor system design, stagnation and temperature control issues.
- Prepare clear, accurate and professional risk assessment reports with practical recommendations.
- Present findings and discuss recommendations with clients where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate inspection records and technical documentation.
- Carry out routine temperature monitoring and water sampling.
- Inspect cold water storage tanks and hot water systems.
- Clean and disinfect showerheads, outlets and associated equipment.
- Complete flushing of infrequently used outlets.
- Inspect and service thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs).
- Carry out chlorination and disinfection works where trained and authorised.
- Undertake remedial water hygiene works within competency.
- Complete all electronic compliance records and site documentation.
- Previous experience as a Water Hygiene Engineer, Legionella Risk Assessor or combined role.
- Good knowledge of ACOP L8, HSG274 and Legionella control measures.
- Strong understanding of water systems and associated risks
- Thorough knowledge of ACo P L8, HSG274, and UK compliance requirements
- Excellent report writing and documentation skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- High attention to detail and organisational skills
- Confident communicator with strong client-facing experience
Experience & Qualifications
- Commercial hot and cold-water systems (essential)
- Healthcare Premises (desirable)
- Level 3 Award in Legionella Control for Responsible Persons (desirable)
- Proficient in IT systems and digital reporting tools
- Experience working in commercial, healthcare or industrial environments.
- Full and clean driving licence
