About the Role

The Fitter’s Mate – Gas Suppression Systems will support an experienced Mechanical Installer in the installation of gaseous fire suppression systems across commercial and critical environments. The role is ideal for someone looking to develop a long‑term career in the fire suppression industry, gaining hands‑on experience with high‑integrity pipework and specialist systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Mechanical Pipe Fitters with the installation of pipework for gaseous fire suppression systems (e.g. HFC‑227ea, FK‑5‑1‑12, Inergen, Argonite, CO₂).
  • Support cutting, threading, and assembling of pipework under supervision.
  • Help install pipe supports, brackets, valves, manifolds, cylinders, and discharge nozzles.
  • Carry tools, materials, and equipment to ensure efficient site operations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working area.
  • Assist with pressure testing, and pre‑commissioning activities.
  • Follow installation drawings, manufacturer instructions, and site direction.
  • Adhere strictly to health & safety procedures, RAMS, and permit‑to‑work systems.
  • Report issues, defects, or material shortages to the supervising fitter or site supervisor.
  • Complete basic site paperwork as required.
  • Some experience in mechanical, plumbing, pipefitting, or construction environments (preferred but not essential).
  • Willingness to learn specialist gas suppression systems.
  • Good practical skills and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • Strong awareness of health & safety on construction sites.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
  • Flexible approach to working hours and site locations.

Experience & Qualifications

  • CSCS Card (Labourer or Trainee level acceptable)
  • Full UK Driving Licence
