About the Role

The Head of Projects will be responsible for the successful delivery of all gas suppression and fire alarm system installation projects across the business, ensuring excellence in project scheduling, compliance, safety, commercial performance, and customer experience. This senior leadership role will oversee the end‑to‑end project lifecycle — from design and planning through installation, commissioning, and handover — while driving standards, efficiency, and continuous improvement within the Projects function. The role will be responsible for leadership and development of the team consisting of Project Management, a Project Coordination, and Project Engineering. They will also work closely with service teams and the business Divisional Financial Controller, ensuring that all gas suppression projects are viable at inception and are delivered to schedule.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Project Governance
    • Provide clear leadership and direction for all Gas Suppression & Fire System project activities, ensuring consistent, high‑quality project delivery.
    • Establish and enforce project management frameworks, processes, and documentation aligned to industry best practices.
    • Manage and develop the project delivery team, promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Technical Oversight
    • Oversee the technical integrity of all project designs, installation methodologies, and commissioning plans.
    • Ensure all engineering decisions prioritise system performance, safety, environmental impact, and regulatory compliance.
    • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of emerging technologies, gas agents, fire alarm systems and changes in regulatory frameworks.
  • Project Delivery & Performance
    • Ensure all projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
    • Monitor project performance, driving improvements in productivity, cost control, and supply chain efficiency.
    • Support resolution of project risks, issues, and delays, implementing corrective actions where necessary.
    • Lead stakeholder communication, ensuring clients, internal teams, and subcontractors are aligned throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Commercial & Strategic Contribution
    • Work closely with commercial and estimating teams to validate project scopes, costs, and delivery strategies.
    • Contribute to bid submissions, technical proposals, and client presentations where project delivery expertise is required.
    • Support strategic planning for the gas suppression division, including capacity planning, supply chain partnerships, and capability development.
    • Identify opportunities to improve profitability through smarter delivery models, value engineering, and innovative technologies.
  • Quality, Safety & Compliance
    • Champion a safety‑first culture across all project activities, ensuring compliance with CDM regulations, safe systems of work, and company H&S procedures.
    • Ensure quality management processes are followed, including inspections, test records, commissioning reports, and O&M documentation.
    • Conduct periodic project audits and reviews to ensure consistent delivery performance and compliance.
    • Promote environmental responsibility, particularly regarding the appropriate handling, storage, and recovery of suppression agents.
