About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated HVAC Commissioning Engineer to join our growing team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for commissioning HVAC and associated mechanical systems, ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, industry standards, and client requirements.

This role requires excellent technical knowledge, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute HVAC commissioning activities from pre-commissioning through to final handover.
  • Review project drawings, specifications, control strategies, and commissioning documentation.
  • Carry out pre-functional inspections and functional performance testing of HVAC systems.
  • Commissioning of vent & wet systems including, air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), chillers, boilers, pumps, ventilation systems, heat recovery units, and associated plant.
  • Verify operation of Building Management Systems (BMS) and ensure control sequences function as designed.
  • Liaise with Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) specialists to verify system performance.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve commissioning issues, documenting corrective actions.
  • Produce commissioning plans, method statements, inspection records, test sheets, and final commissioning reports.
  • Support client demonstrations, operator training, and project handovers.
  • Work closely with Dakro's air and water specialists where HVAC systems interface with water treatment and environmental control systems.
  • Degree, HND, NVQ Level 4/5, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in HVAC commissioning or mechanical building services.
  • Strong understanding of chilled water, heating water, ventilation, air conditioning, and hydronic systems.
  • Experience commissioning Building Management Systems (BMS) and controls.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, P&IDs, and control philosophies.
  • Experience working on commercial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, industrial, or data centre projects is advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Experience & Qualifications

  • CSA Grade 3 or equivalent commissioning certification.
  • SSSTS or SMSTS certification.
  • First Aid at Work qualification.
  • Experience with cleanrooms, healthcare, data centres, or mission-critical facilities.
  • Knowledge of water treatment systems and closed-system water quality.
