Based in Poole, this senior operational leadership role oversees machine shop operations, manufacturing performance, people development and continuous improvement. The incumbent manages a multi-discipline team of more than fifty staff, ensuring efficient use of labour and equipment to produce high-quality products on time while meeting health and safety requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure all risk and COSHH assessments are in place.
  • Contribute to strategy decisions, including budget planning and production improvement.
  • Lead and develop CNC machining and production engineering teams.
  • Drive safety, quality, delivery and productivity performance.
  • Manage capital investment, equipment strategy and technology adoption.
  • Oversee new product introduction and design-for-manufacture activities.
  • Implement Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement programmes.
  • Optimise CNC programming, CAM usage, tooling and fixturing strategies.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective action programmes.
  • Manage and drive introduction of new products in partnership with production engineering and operations teams.

Candidate skills:

  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Proven experience managing leading CNC machinery shop manufacturing operations.
  • Strong lean manufacturing and continuous improvement background.
  • Overall knowledge of machining processes, tooling, fixturing and CAM.
  • Experience leading, coaching and developing technical teams.
  • HNC / HND or higher in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Confident communicator with strong organisational and stakeholder management ability.
  • Demonstrate experience utilising continuous improvement tools such as VSM, SMED, TPM, Kaizen, 5S, Kanban and error-proofing.
