Based in Poole, this is a senior operational leadership role working for a global business that offers excellent career progression. As a Senior Machine Shop Manager, you will oversee operations, manufacturing, production performance, people development, and continuous improvement. You will play a key role in managing and leading a team and CNC machine shop manufacturing operation.
Your responsibilities will include ensuring smooth workflow by effectively utilising labour and equipment to produce high-quality products delivered on time while complying with health and safety requirements. You will manage a team of over fifty staff, demonstrating strong coaching and performance management skills.
You will take full ownership of a multi-discipline machine shop operation, managing production engineering, CNC machining, and manufacturing performance. Additionally, you will drive safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and cost performance while modernising processes and building a high-performance team culture. Continuous improvement is paramount, requiring a thorough understanding of lean tools and their link to KPIs, using this information to proactively focus on driving the team.
Candidate Skills:
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
- Strong Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement background
- Overall knowledge of machining processes, tooling, fixturing, and CAM
- Experience leading, coaching, and developing technical teams
- HNC / HND or higher in Mechanical, Manufacturing or Production Engineering (or equivalent experience)

Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all risk and COSHH assessments are in place
- Proactively contribute to overall strategy decisions, including budget planning and production improvement
- Manage and execute the Capex plan
- Lead and develop CNC machining and production engineering teams
- Drive safety, quality, delivery, and productivity performance
- Manage capital investment, equipment strategy, and technology adoption
- Oversee new product introduction and design-for-manufacture activities
- Implement Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement programmes
- Optimise CNC programming, CAM usage, tooling, and fixturing strategies
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action programmes
- Manage and drive the introduction of new products working closely with production engineering and the machine shop and operations team
