I am recruiting on behalf of a Global Food Manufacturer for one of their sites based in London. The candidate must have experience in any of the following industries: Oil/Gas, Food or Beverage Manufacturing, Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, Chemical Manufacturing, or any other industry that involves 'HOT' works and high risk/hazardous environments.

ROLE PURPOSE

To lead a professional Safety Management provision on the site, leading the site Safety vision that successfully aligns our plant safety goals with our business objectives.

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Business Compliance
    • Ensure Safety KPI’s on site, including Suppliers and Contractors, are maintained and continuously improved, identifying improvement areas and interventions where required.
    • Ensure Hygiene, Environment and Quality standards, as it relates to safety, are maintained and continuously improved.
    • Maintain relationships with relevant Regulators and ensure regulatory compliance in all aspects of reporting, communication and auditing.
    • Maintain relationships with Insurers on behalf of the Company and by good safety management, play a part in reducing these costs.
    • Manage fire protection on site, ensuring regulatory compliance and governance in all aspects of the provision.
    • Manage the departmental budget, ensuring cost effectiveness but also flexibility to deliver business needs.
  • Business Performance
    • Develop and support a robust Health and Safety Management system and auditing protocols.
    • Develop an Annual Health and Safety Plan along with the Plant Manager and the other Heads of Department, and regularly review progress.
    • Drive compliance of safety performance among peer group, ensuring a regular cadence with all department Heads.
    • Ensure continuous improvement of safety performance through rigorous investigation, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
    • Develop and maintain engagement programmes and communication delivery of safety initiatives, safe working instructions and legislative updates.
    • Uphold our Employer of Choice Commitment through strong leadership and a prioritization of talent, culture and performance.
  • Cross-Functional
    • Develop strong cross-functional partnerships to drive improved safety performance and employee safety engagement across operations.
    • Ensure group standards are in place and local application is fully communicated and embedded.
    • Work collaboratively to resolve significant Health & Safety issues across site using cross-functional resources.
    • Maintain networking relationships with wider HSE function globally.
    • Maintain networking relationship with commercial functions to understand end to end business needs.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree level qualification, with specific safety qualification e.g. Nebosh Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health.
  • Demonstrable high performer in a similar environment.
  • Clear demonstration of taking ownership for results.
  • Able to demonstrate outstanding people/union management.
  • Exposure to change management implementation.
  • Proven experience of championing safety and effectively challenging established behaviours and practices.
  • Proven ability to communicate and influence as a trusted expert on safety issues.
