The Opportunity

OBR Group are delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established and highly respected UK business for an experienced Purchasing Assistant to join their Head Office team in Chesterfield. Our client has been a market leader within the construction and plant hire industry and operates a nationwide network of depots, supporting customers across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to strengthen their Purchasing team with an organised and proactive individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a stable, successful business where you'll play an important role in supporting the procurement function and maintaining strong supplier relationships.

The Role

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, you'll assist with the day-to-day purchasing activities, ensuring products and services are sourced efficiently, cost-effectively and delivered on time to support the wider business. You'll be responsible for helping maintain purchasing processes, supporting supplier relationships and ensuring the smooth administration of procurement activities across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with sourcing and purchasing parts, components, consumables and services.
  • Support the Purchasing Manager in maintaining an approved supplier database and developing long-term supplier relationships.
  • Assist with negotiating supplier agreements and national contracts where required.
  • Process purchase orders and coordinate the distribution of parts to and from central stores.
  • Administer supplier warranty claims and liaise with both suppliers and operational depots.
  • Ensure purchasing procedures are followed accurately and in line with company processes.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation.
  • Work closely with internal departments to ensure purchasing requirements are met efficiently.

About You

We're looking for someone who has previous purchasing or procurement experience and enjoys building strong working relationships with suppliers and colleagues alike. You'll be highly organised, able to prioritise multiple tasks and have excellent attention to detail. Ideally you'll have:

  • Previous experience working within a Purchasing, Procurement or Buying environment.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Strong administrative abilities with great attention to detail.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and databases.
  • The ability to work independently whilst also being a collaborative team player.
  • Experience within engineering, manufacturing, construction or plant hire would be advantageous, although not essential.
