Job Role : Health and Safety Manager

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well established facility based in North Down.

  • 40 hrs per week Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm

My client is a therapeutic community based in North Down offering residential and day service provision for both children and adults with complex physical and learning support needs.

The site spanning 90+ acres on the shores of Belfast Lough comprises of a variety of buildings including residential homes, a farm, a school, therapeutic and recreational spaces all operating under the principles of the client's movement.

The organisation emphasises community living, holistic care and the therapeutic benefits of living and working with nature while engaging in meaningful activities

1. Residential Homes: 14+ residential houses in a family-like setting with caregivers.

2. Training College: where day services and activities are provided for non-residential members.

3. Workshops/Laundry: Areas where various vocational activities take place, such as woodworking, crafts, weaving, and other therapeutic work.

4. Farms and Gardens: Agricultural spaces where residents can engage in farming, gardening.

5. School Buildings: Spaces dedicated to learning and development, including classrooms and therapy rooms.

6. Health and Therapy Facilities: Areas designated for medical care, physiotherapy, and other therapeutic services.

7. Recreational Spaces: Includes sports pitch, play areas, forest walks/areas and communal spaces for social activities.

8. Admin Offices: Offices for administrative and support staff who manage the community's operations.

Person Specification

  • The following are essential criteria which will be measured at short listing stage:

Education/Training/

  • Qualifications Bachelor s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Facilities Management, or a related field E.
  • NEBOSH Diploma Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Experience Minimum of 5 years of experience in health and safety management and facilities management. Minimum of 3 years experience in managing maintenance services
  • Experience of leading a staff team
  • Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and best practice
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Ability to produce board reports, business cases and presentations
  • Commitment to highest standards in Health and Safety Excellent
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills Advanced Leadership and management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and facility management software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of CDM (Construction Design and Management) regulations and their application in facilities projects.
  • Experience in delivering contractor safety briefings and ensuring ongoing compliance throughout projects.
  • Ability to develop contingency plans for critical facilities risks such as heating, electrical systems, and structural safety concerns.
  • Circumstances Ability to work in various environments, including office settings, residential/school/ day care facilities, and outdoor areas
  • Current driving licence and access to a car for business use
  • Ability to meet travel requirements
  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends (on call rota)
  • Valid diver licence, business insurance & MOT cert
