Senior Android Developer – Freelance / Contract
Location: UK Remote
Rate: up to £700 / day (Outside IR35)
We’re hiring an experienced Senior Android Developer to join a mobile engineering team on a contract/freelance basis.
This is a FULLY REMOTE (UK) hands-on development role that will involve working closely with designers, backend engineers, and product teams to bring mobile features to life—from concept to production.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of modern, scalable Android applications using Kotlin and Jetpack libraries.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and implement new features across the entire app lifecycle — concept, design, build, test, deploy, and maintain.
- Ensure robust app performance and responsiveness across devices and OS versions.
- Apply modern architecture patterns (e.g., MVVM, MVI) and contribute to maintaining a clean and modular codebase.
- Integrate with RESTful APIs and real-time data streams provided by backend services.
- Write unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and stability.
- Identify and resolve bugs, performance bottlenecks, and UX issues.
- Support the team with knowledge sharing and contribute to best practices in mobile development.
What We’re Looking For
- Expert-level Kotlin developer with strong Android SDK knowledge and a portfolio of published apps.
- Solid understanding of Jetpack Compose, Coroutines, and Android Architecture Components.
- Experience building complex UI and animations with a focus on user experience and performance.
- Strong grasp of app lifecycle, background processing, and state management on Android.
- Comfortable working with third-party libraries and integrating external SDKs.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for Android (e.g., GitHub Actions, Bitrise, Jenkins).
- Experience with Firebase, Room, Hilt/Dagger, and Google Play services is a plus.
- Prior experience in contract/freelance roles with remote collaboration is highly valued.
