Cale reached an age when his competitive days were over, he realised that he had more to offer to potential young competitors. He learned a lot of the coaching experience through his own competitions and was able to transfer it in a more positive way.
Cale’s career journey stemmed from an activity leadership course which he took at Richmond Upon Thames College which accelerated his career in coaching and where he found his passion for training and coaching others.
Cale entered the fitness industry by working in a gym as a barrister – he was the coffee guy! Cale was also taking a sports science degree at St Marys University in Twickenham. Once he completed his time at the gym he was working at, he transferred to his current gym and put his level 3 personal training qualification to effective use.
Cale’s working pattern varies. He works shifts and there are several classes and clients in between that shift. Some of the clients have very generic needs whilst others are more performance based and are a bit more able. These could be ex competitors or even current competitors, and he likes to put performance training into some of their regimes.
Advice about the industry – “You can certainly climb the ladder within this industry. You must find your own niche. There is a generic world out there in this industry. It could be body strength training, weight training, it could be working with competitors. Get yourself qualified as early as you can. Go out there and be proactive and get yourself out of your comfort zone. Get yourself into a gym to see if you love it and for experience. Use the gym equipment to familiarise yourself with everything and to know what your likes or dislikes are, what your own preferences are, and you will develop in time, an understanding of what other knowledgeable or unknowledgeable people may or may not need.”
