Daisy Fossett is a camel dairy farmer in Warwickshire.
- Daisy is the creative director of Daisy’s Dromedairy, the UK’s first and only camel dairy in Warwickshire.
- Daisy’s love for animals, especially camels, inspired her to start this business and to diversify her parents\’ original enterprise. No other camel dairy exists in the UK, which presented a unique challenge she was eager to undertake.
- Although Daisy has never been a traditional farmer or worked in the dairy industry, she gained valuable experience working with animals, including racehorses in Australia.
The farm produces raw camel’s milk, sold in four bottle sizes, as well as camel milk chocolate, including four types of truffles and three types of hard chocolates, along with camel milk soap.
Camel milk is considered a superfood, rich in vitamin C, beneficial for skin health, immune-boosting, suitable for those lactose intolerant, and used for medicinal purposes.
Daisy’s daily routine involves milking the camels twice a day at 8 am and 5 pm, cleaning stables, and managing the animals’ movement between the field and stables. She also handles administrative tasks such as sales, marketing, and social media. Working hours vary from 4-5 hours on some days to up to twelve hours on others.
The work environment is physically demanding and challenging, especially managing large, strong animals and the responsibilities of being her own boss. The role can be overwhelming at times but also rewarding, particularly when milking is successful, and the business has a consistent demand for its products. Daisy enjoys spending time with the camels, having flexible working hours, and exercising creative control over her business.
