POST: Play Worker
WORKING PATTERN: 11.30am – 1.30pm MONDAY – FRIDAY 10 hours per week, 2 hours per day.
LOCATION: Oasis Academy Watermead
DISCLOSURE LEVEL: Enhanced
Job Purpose
- To work under the general direction of the Assistant Principal/DSL
- To plan and organise a range of stimulating and developmental activities for children.
- Ensure high quality supervision, safety and welfare of children.
- Communicate and liaise with staff and the community.
- Participate in training and development.
- Ensure all Safeguarding and Health and Safety regulations are adhered to.
Specific Responsibilities
- Organise, facilitate and lead a range of play based activities which include sports, arts and crafts, games, drama, dance, multi-media and adapted activities.
- Be responsible for planning and organising all play activities in accordance with Academy policy.
- To assist in the creation and management of a play environment where children can make choices, access a range of resources and be supported by a responsive and adaptable approach to their play.
- Ensure that equipment is properly maintained and fit for children and staff, prepare activity areas for children and staff.
- Whilst on duty assume responsibility for the safety and welfare of children under his/her supervision, including all safeguarding procedures.
- Ensure that the activity areas are maintained to a safe level and in accordance with the Academy policies.
- To ensure all children return to their classrooms safely.
- Liaise with colleagues, Safeguarding and Inclusion Leader, other internal and external agencies on day to day operational matters and refer any difficult position to the Safeguarding and Inclusion Leader for advice and assistance.
- Work closely with colleagues on matters related to the day to day delivery of the service.
- Participate in training and development programmes both external and internal.
- Share information gained at external events with colleagues and promotes development of the whole staff team.
- Contribute to the set-up of activities at the beginning of sessions and clean down at the end of sessions.
- Record inappropriate pupil behaviour and convey any serious incident to a member of staff.
- To be positive and use the appropriate language and speech you would expect from the children, including manners and monitor and uphold the Academies expectations with behaviour.
- Supervise children washing their hands prior to their meal being eaten.
- Be proactive in offering ideas and initiating activities where appropriate whilst having an appreciation of the impact of adult intervention on children’s freedom to choose and create their own play environment.
- Assist in assessing and managing risk in the play and leisure opportunities delivered through a robust and considered approach to risk benefit assessments.
- Contribute to the provision of nutritional snacks for children and contribute to menu planning.
- Participate in safeguarding, first aid, training and induction.
- Promote and deliver high standards in modelling the ethos and values of Oasis and the Academy.
- It is in the nature of work with children that tasks and responsibilities are in many circumstances unpredictable and varied. All staff are expected to work in a flexible way when the occasion arises.
- Any other duties as reasonably directed by the Principal or any member of the Senior Leadership Team
