Overview
Education Consultant – Part time hours (variable). Oasis Community Learning (OCL) leads Oasis’ distinctive community and character-led education offer, operating 56 Academies within 40 communities with a focus on areas of deprivation. We are seeking an Ofsted inspector or recently retired HMI to join a team of consultants who support our academies to improve through our evaluation and monitoring programme.
Responsibilities
- Lead all reviews as part of the Monitoring and Evaluation Team, supported by other consultants and academy leaders.
- Construct a review programme to provide deep insight into academy performance and development priorities, focusing on why and how to drive improvement.
- Deliver two-day reviews for each academy in the first half of the academic year and a one-day follow-up visit in the second half, assessing progress against development priorities and Ofsted areas.
- Co-create reports and share findings with trustees, the chief executive, and the trust board; work with leaders to agree next steps and solutions.
- Engage in schedule, data analysis, and preparation with principals; provide clear, impartial feedback and contribute to development plans.
- Provide travel as needed; arrange appropriate accommodation; invoice promptly for work.

You will be
- Experienced in education leadership with a strong track record in school improvement and understanding of standards
- Serving Ofsted inspector (or recently retired HMI)
- Willing to travel to OCL academies across England (travel paid)
- Flexible and community-focused with a commitment to evidence-based evaluations
What is the role
Lead reviews with support from colleagues; adopt a collegiate approach; design a review programme to provide a deep insight into strengths and development priorities. We invest in a two-stage review process for each academy and share findings in daily wash-up sessions.
The team is led by Iain Freeland, former HMI and lead Ofsted inspector. Expressions of interest should include your experience, expertise, alignment with the Oasis ethos, and anticipated availability per annum.
Schedule 1: Services and rates
- Provide an impartial view of the quality of educational provision across OCL; apply up-to-date understanding of school improvement strategies and Ofsted expectations
- Attend MET updates and CPD; liaise to share availability for each term; prepare for reviews by analyzing data and documents
- Provide day-long onsite and remote visits; give clear feedback; work with leaders to agree next steps; produce a report
- Invoice in a timely fashion for work completed
