Accounts Assistant – Credit Control - Permanent – based in Northampton, NN4
Job Purpose
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced and organised Accounts Assistant / Credit Controller to join a busy finance team supporting multiple businesses.
This is a varied role combining day-to-day accounts administration with responsibility for credit control.
You will take ownership of customer accounts, proactively manage outstanding balances and support the wider finance function with accurate processing, reconciliations and month-end activities.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience within an accounts or finance environment, strong attention to detail and confidence using accounting software such as Zoho Books, Sage 50, Xero or similar.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage credit control and proactively chase outstanding customer balances.
- Contact customers professionally by telephone and email regarding overdue accounts, contracts and payment queries.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date debtor records.
- Monitor aged debt and identify accounts requiring further action.
- Process and allocate customer payments.
- Process supplier invoices and bills.
- Support the maintenance of sales and purchase ledgers.
- Complete regular bank reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve account discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate financial records across multiple companies and legal entities.
- Assist with general finance and accounts administration.
- Support the wider finance team with month-end and other accounting activities.
- Identify discrepancies and process issues, contributing to improvements in internal finance procedures.

Experience
- Previous experience as an Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant with Credit Control experience.
- Strong practical experience in credit control and debt collection.
- Experience using Zoho Books, Sage 50, Xero or similar accounting software and Microsoft Excel skills.
- Good understanding of sales and purchase ledgers.
- Experience processing and allocating invoices, bills and payments.
- Previous experience completing bank reconciliations.
- Experience working across multiple companies or legal entities would be advantageous.

- Monday – Friday (37.5 hours)
