We are currently recruiting an Accountant to join a well-established independent firm of Chartered Accountants and Registered Auditors based in Buckingham. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounts professional to take on a varied and client-facing role within a supportive and collaborative environment. You will manage a diverse portfolio of clients, delivering high-quality accounting, bookkeeping, and advisory services, while also supporting the development of junior team members.

The successful applicant will typically be required to work 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, with a hybrid working pattern of 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage a varied portfolio of clients across multiple sectors
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations including bank, VAT, credit cards, receivables, payables, payroll, CIS, intercompany accounts, and loans
  • Process bills and expenses accurately and efficiently
  • Manage supplier payments and oversee credit control processes
  • Prepare and review VAT returns in line with current regulations
  • Support year-end accounts preparation
  • Facilitate and support software integrations
  • Maintain regular daily communication with clients, responding to queries and providing support
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships, delivering excellent service
  • Handle ad hoc client requests and provide practical financial solutions
  • Assist in developing and training junior members of the team
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
Person Specification:
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail
  • Proactive and able to manage multiple deadlines effectively
  • Strong client-facing skills with a friendly and professional approach
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to think creatively
  • Strong work ethic with a commitment to high-quality service delivery
  • Enjoyment in building and maintaining client relationships
  • Ability to think outside the box and provide solutions to client challenges
  • Confident using accounting systems and adapting to new technologies
Experience:
  • Bookkeeping experience (essential), ideally within an accountancy practice
  • Proven experience managing bookkeeping processes through to trial balance
  • Strong VAT knowledge with experience preparing and reviewing VAT returns
  • Experience managing multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously
  • Proficiency in Xero (essential), with knowledge of Sage and QuickBooks advantageous
  • Experience with journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Confident in handling client communications and queries
  • AAT Level 4 (desirable)
  • ACA / ACCA study or qualification would be advantageous but not essential
Hours of Work:

Monday – Friday (37.5 hours)
