We are currently recruiting an Accountant to join a well-established independent firm of Chartered Accountants and Registered Auditors based in Buckingham. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounts professional to take on a varied and client-facing role within a supportive and collaborative environment. You will manage a diverse portfolio of clients, delivering high-quality accounting, bookkeeping, and advisory services, while also supporting the development of junior team members.
The successful applicant will typically be required to work 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, with a hybrid working pattern of 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:- Manage a varied portfolio of clients across multiple sectors
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations including bank, VAT, credit cards, receivables, payables, payroll, CIS, intercompany accounts, and loans
- Process bills and expenses accurately and efficiently
- Manage supplier payments and oversee credit control processes
- Prepare and review VAT returns in line with current regulations
- Support year-end accounts preparation
- Facilitate and support software integrations
- Maintain regular daily communication with clients, responding to queries and providing support
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, delivering excellent service
- Handle ad hoc client requests and provide practical financial solutions
- Assist in developing and training junior members of the team
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail
- Proactive and able to manage multiple deadlines effectively
- Strong client-facing skills with a friendly and professional approach
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to think creatively
- Strong work ethic with a commitment to high-quality service delivery
- Enjoyment in building and maintaining client relationships
- Ability to think outside the box and provide solutions to client challenges
- Confident using accounting systems and adapting to new technologies
- Bookkeeping experience (essential), ideally within an accountancy practice
- Proven experience managing bookkeeping processes through to trial balance
- Strong VAT knowledge with experience preparing and reviewing VAT returns
- Experience managing multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously
- Proficiency in Xero, with knowledge of Sage and QuickBooks advantageous
- Experience with journal entries and account reconciliations
- Confident in handling client communications and queries
- AAT Level 4 (desirable)
- ACA / ACCA study or qualification would be advantageous but not essential
Monday – Friday (37.5 hours)
