About This Role
Are you a skilled Commissioning Engineer with a passion for automation, problem‑solving, and delivering exceptional customer service? This is a hands‑on, field‑focused role where no two days are the same. You will play a crucial part in ensuring our innovative systems are commissioned safely, efficiently and to specification, directly contributing to successful project delivery and customer satisfaction.
As a Commissioning Engineer, you will be the face of OAL on customer sites, working closely with Project Managers, engineering teams and production teams to commission automation systems within food manufacturing environments. Based in Peterborough, the role involves regular travel (approx. 80% site‑based), providing both technical expertise and exceptional customer support.
Responsibilities
- Perform on‑site commissioning activities in line with project requirements.
- Collaborate with internal engineering and project teams to deliver systems on time and to spec.
- Build strong customer relationships, ensuring minimal disruption to production during commissioning.
- Provide training on systems and applications to customers.
- Create and maintain all commissioning documentation.
- Identify and troubleshoot faults, including implementing and testing modifications.
- Offer technical support to internal teams and customers.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of products, systems and processes.
- Ensure all activities are executed safely and in line with company policies and risk assessments.
- Maintain professional behaviour and promote OAL positively at all times.
- Capture customer feedback and report business opportunities identified on site.
- Support agreed budgets, timeframes, and project constraints.
- Commit to ongoing personal development.
Essential Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in IT, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with IT systems including Windows, networking and SQL.
- Previous PLC experience.
- Proven commissioning experience in an industrial or automation environment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and customer‑facing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of food manufacturing processes.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel and stay away from home as required.
It Would Be Great If You Had
- Automation or controls engineering experience.
- Commissioning experience in food or FMCG environments.
- Strong fault‑finding and troubleshooting skills.
