The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Junior Costs Draftsman to join our expanding Costs Department. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a supportive, forward-thinking legal team across multiple practice areas including:
- Personal Injury (RTA, EL/PL, Industrial Disease, Psychiatric Injury)
- Other civil litigation matters
The successful candidate will draft accurate and compliant Bills of Costs and related documentation, working closely with an experienced Costs team.
Key Responsibilities
- Draft Bills of Costs for detailed assessment
- Prepare Schedules of Costs, Estimates of Costs, and Statements of Costs for Summary Assessment
- Produce Precedent H and Precedent R documents
- Manage paper files and a paperless case management system
- Liaise with fee earners and clients as required
- Maintain accuracy and compliance with the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR)
About You
You will ideally have at least 1 year of experience in a costs role and be confident handling your own caseload with minimal supervision. You should have a solid understanding of the CPR, particularly costs rules, Part 7 and Part 8 litigation, and be eager to develop your expertise.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Minimum 1 year’s experience in costs drafting
- Strong knowledge of CPR and costs procedures
- Excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines efficiently
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and CostMaster
- Experience with Proclaim Case Management System (advantageous but not essential)
- A positive attitude and commitment to professional growth
