We are seeking to appoint a highly organised and professional Governance Professional (Clerk to Governors) to support our Governing Board. This key role provides high-quality administrative and governance support, ensuring effective and compliant operation of the board. The position is an annualised hours role totaling 266 hours per year, worked flexibly across the academic year, primarily during term time. Attendance at scheduled evening meetings and occasional daytime meetings is required. Time will also be spent on preparation, minute taking, follow‑up actions and ongoing governance support.
Responsibilities
- Organise governing board and committee meetings, including agendas and papers.
- Attend meetings and take accurate minutes.
- Provide governance and procedural advice.
- Maintain statutory records and ensure compliance.
- Support governor recruitment and elections.
- Manage governance information and website content.
Qualifications and Experience
- Strong administrative experience and excellent organisational skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to produce clear and accurate written records.
- Capability to manage confidential information appropriately.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Confidence using Microsoft Office and ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Interest in governance and willingness to develop knowledge of relevant legislation.
- Experience in a school or governance role is advantageous but not essential.
Compensation and Hours
Surrey Pay Grade 7 – £5,798 to £6,180 (actual) for permanent full time equivalent of 24,642 to 28,590 annual salary. Annualised 266 hours per year (approximately 7 hours per week, term‑time only).
