Job Purpose
To support pupils’ emotional wellbeing, behaviour, and engagement in learning. The Wellbeing Lead will play a key role in providing pastoral support, delivering targeted interventions, and acting as a trusted adult for students who may be vulnerable or experiencing barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Wellbeing & Pastoral Support
- Act as a key adult for identified pupils, building positive and trusting relationships
- Provide 1:1 and small group support focused on emotional wellbeing
- Support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation strategies
- Support pupils during key times of the school day (transitions, break, lunch)
- Intervention Delivery
- Deliver targeted interventions such as:
- Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA)
- Trauma-Informed Practice (TIP) approaches
- Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP)-informed support
- Support development of coping strategies, resilience, and social skills
- Monitor, record, and evaluate the impact of interventions
- Safeguarding & Inclusion
- Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)
- Identify and report safeguarding concerns in line with school policies
- Support vulnerable pupils and those at risk of exclusion
- Assist with reintegration following absence or suspension
- Collaboration
- Work alongside teaching staff, SENCo, and pastoral team
- Liaise with parents/carers and external professionals where appropriate
- Contribute to a consistent, supportive, and inclusive school environment
Person Specification
Essential:
- Experience working with children or young people, ideally within a secondary school
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to build positive relationships and act as a role model
- Good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
Desirable:
- Training or experience in:
- Emotional Literacy Support (ELSA)
- Trauma-Informed Practice (TIP)
- Dyadic Developmental Practice (DDP)
- Experience in alternative provision or pastoral roles
