The ideal candidate will be based in the San Jose / Bay Area. Pay range: $90,000 - $95,000.
The Regional Registered Dietitian (RD) Specialist is a CDR-accredited Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). The Regional RD Specialist is responsible for upholding the nutritional standards of the Health Services Department and provides comprehensive nutritional services for all communities within their assigned region, based on organizational needs and as determined by the Director of Nutritional Services and/or the Senior Vice President of Health Services.
The Regional RD Specialist is expected to demonstrate exceptional communication, strong attention to detail, and ensure compliance with current nutritional regulations and RCFE guidelines.
Travel
Must be willing to travel 100% of the time within Northern California. Travel assignments may be for extended periods of time and may frequently change; flexibility and availability are required.
Position Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in interdisciplinary meetings.
- Schedule and review quarterly culinary audits for all Northern California communities.
- Lead nutrition education seminars for current or prospective assisted living residents, demonstrating expertise in various nutrition topics and public speaking skills.
- Attend and participate in nutrition-related marketing events.
- Provide in-service training on various special diets (e.g., NAS, CCHO) for team members.
- Provide in-service training on IDDSI (International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative) modified texture diets for team members, ensuring a strong understanding and application of IDDSI standards.
- Review IDDSI meals for accuracy in texture and consistency.
- Review menus to ensure alignment with company standards and the current Dietary Guidelines for Older Adults (DGA), as recommended by USDA and HHS.
- Provide 1:1 diet education and counseling for assisted living residents and families.
- Provide nutrition consultations for high nutritional risk residents and present evidence-based nutritional care plans to interdisciplinary teams.
- Provide evidence-based nutrition recommendations tailored to resident needs.
- Collaborate with culinary services to develop individualized meal plans aligned with company standards and DGA recommendations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of malnutrition risk screening tools and diagnostic criteria for identifying malnutrition.
- Maintain effective communication with the Director of Nutritional Services and other departmental leaders to uphold organizational standards.
- Demonstrate strong time management and effective communication skills.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations relevant to the department.
Qualifications
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must hold an active Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) license accredited by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and meet all applicable state licensing requirements.
- Prefer two (2) years of experience practicing as an RDN and one (1) year in senior living, LTC, or a related field.
- Must stay up to date in dietetics through continuing education at minimum every five (5) years.
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to food service and nutrition in senior living.
- Must be highly motivated and able to work independently.
- Able to adapt and respond to changes, make decisions, and prioritize tasks and projects.
- Must pass a Criminal Background check and Health Screening tests.
- May require team members to vaccinate, participate in daily screening, surveillance testing, and to wear face coverings and other personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent the spread of COVID-19 or other communicable diseases, per regulatory guidelines.
- Able to read, write and speak the English language to interact and communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, physicians, health care professionals, residents, and their families.
