An exciting engineering hardware consultancy based in Nottingham is looking for an Electronic Design Engineer to join their collaborative team of hardware and software engineers. They work closely with customers to bring real products to life - from initial specification through to production and deployment. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role, offering exposure to a wide variety of industries, technologies, and complex technical challenges.

The Role

  • As a Hardware Engineer, you will take ownership of electronic hardware design across the full product lifecycle, while working closely with customers and internal engineering teams.
  • You will:
  • Design, prototype, and simulate electronic hardware to achieve high first-pass success on A-model designs.
  • Develop and manage complex hardware designs, including schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout (typically 2–8 layers, mixed-signal).
  • Work across a wide range of technologies, including MCU/MPU systems, RF, power (DC-DC and AC-DC), analogue sensors, digital logic, FPGAs, and memory devices.
  • Validate, test, and debug hardware using lab equipment, with occasional travel to external test facilities.
  • Apply Design for Testability (DFT), Design for Manufacture (DFM), and Design for Production (DFP) throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Review designs against best practice and produce clear, high-quality technical documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to customers.
  • Communicate effectively with customers, providing updates and responding to technical queries throughout project delivery.

What They’re Looking For

  • A degree (2:1 or above) in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years’ experience in a hardware-focused electronics design role.
  • Experience working in a customer-facing or consultancy-based engineering environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience in hardware design, test, and debugging using lab equipment.
  • Familiarity with mixed-signal and IoT-style embedded systems.
  • Solid understanding of EMC, Design for Compliance (DoC), DFT, DFM, and DFP.
  • Experience using Altium Designer (preferred), or other eCAD tools such as Eagle, KiCad, Fusion, or PADS.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to produce clear documentation for non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive, organised approach with the ability to manage workload independently with support from team leads.

Why Apply?

  • Work on real products from concept to production.
  • Broad technical exposure across industries and technologies.
  • Customer-facing role with genuine engineering influence.
  • Hybrid and flexible working.
  • Competitive salary and strong benefits package, including private healthcare, pension, and life assurance.

If you’re a hands-on Electronics Engineer who enjoys variety, customer interaction, and seeing products through to reality, this is a role well worth exploring.
