An exciting engineering hardware consultancy based in Nottingham is looking for a Electronic Design Engineer to join their collaborative team of hardware and software engineers.
They work closely with customers to bring real products to life โ from initial specification through to production and deployment. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role, offering exposure to a wide variety of industries, technologies, and complex technical challenges.
The Role
As a Hardware Engineer, you will take ownership of electronic hardware design across the full product lifecycle, while working closely with customers and internal engineering teams.
- Design, prototype, and simulate electronic hardware to achieve high first-pass success on A-model designs
- Develop and manage complex hardware designs, including schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout (typically 2โ8 layers, mixed-signal)
- Work across a wide range of technologies, including MCU/MPU systems, RF, power (DC-DC and AC-DC), analogue sensors, digital logic, FPGAs, and memory devices
- Validate, test, and debug hardware using lab equipment, with occasional travel to external test facilities
- Apply Design for Testability (DFT), Design for Manufacture (DFM), and Design for Production (DFP) throughout the development lifecycle
- Review designs against best practice and produce clear, high-quality technical documentation
- Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to customers
- Communicate effectively with customers, providing updates and responding to technical queries throughout project delivery
What Theyโre Looking For
- A degree (2:1 or above) in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline
- 4+ yearsโ experience in a hardware-focused electronics design role
- Experience working in a customer-facing or consultancy-based engineering environment
- Strong hands-on experience in hardware design, test, and debugging using lab equipment
- Familiarity with mixed-signal and IoT-style embedded systems
- Solid understanding of EMC, Design for Compliance (DoC), DFT, DFM, and DFP
- Experience using Altium Designer (preferred), or other eCAD tools such as Eagle, KiCad, Fusion, or PADS
- Strong communication skills and the ability to produce clear documentation for non-technical stakeholders
- A proactive, organised approach with the ability to manage workload independently with support from team leads
Why Apply?
- Work on real products from concept to production
- Broad technical exposure across industries and technologies
- Customer-facing role with genuine engineering influence
- Hybrid and flexible working
- Competitive salary and strong benefits package, including private healthcare, pension, and life assurance
If youโre a hands-on Electronics Engineer who enjoys variety, customer interaction, and seeing products through to reality, this is a role well worth exploring.
