Role: Electronic Engineer
Location: Edinburgh (hybrid)
Salary: £50-60k
Our client is an exciting, fast-growing IoT company building connected hardware products deployed in demanding real-world environments. They're a small, generalist engineering team where everyone gets stuck in across disciplines rather than being siloed, and they're in a market expected to grow significantly over the next decade.
This is a hands-on hardware role. You'll be designing electronic hardware for IoT edge devices, with real ownership from concept through to manufacture.
What you'll be doing:
- Designing embedded electronic hardware for IoT edge systems: microcontrollers, memory, power management, sensors, comms interfaces
- Producing schematics and PCB layouts, maintaining design files and documentation
- Selecting and qualifying components against performance, reliability, availability, cost and lifecycle
- Designing and optimising low-power, battery-powered systems for long-life field deployment
- Integrating wired and wireless comms interfaces and radio modules
- Leading prototype bring-up, debugging and board-level fault finding
- Working with Hardware QA on verification, validation, environmental and compliance testing
- Supporting manufacturing and supply chain activity, including pilot builds and supplier engagement
- Contributing to DFT, DFM and DFR initiatives
- Investigating and resolving hardware issues across development, production and field deployment
What they're looking for:
- Degree in Electronic Engineering or related discipline
- 3+ years in embedded hardware or electronics design
- Strong component selection, microcontroller and sensor interfacing experience
- Schematic capture and PCB design/layout experience
- Proven low-power/battery system design and optimisation
- Experience integrating comms modules
- In-circuit test, JTAG and hardware debugging tool experience
- Strong hands-on prototyping and breadboarding skills
- Good grasp of EMI/EMC, signal integrity and power integrity principles
