We’re looking for a Senior Support Worker to join a supported living service, combining direct care with day-to-day guidance for colleagues. You’ll remain actively involved in supporting people while helping the team deliver consistent, thoughtful care throughout each shift.
You may already be working at senior level or be an experienced Support Worker ready to progress.
The Role
You’ll help people make choices about their daily lives, develop their confidence and enjoy the things that matter to them. Depending on individual needs, this will include personal care, support at home and getting out into the community.
Your additional responsibilities will include:
- Being a trusted point of contact during shifts, helping colleagues prioritise their work and deal with everyday challenges.
- Building staff confidence through practical coaching, individual feedback and development reviews.
- Spotting changes in people’s needs by considering both your observations and the information recorded by the team.
- Checking that medicines, personal spending and care records are being managed properly, and following up where something needs attention.
- Helping colleagues respond sensitively when someone is distressed, using the support approaches agreed for that person.
- Bringing together updates from relatives, professionals and colleagues so that important information informs everyday care.
- Sharing out-of-hours cover responsibilities, including helping resolve staffing gaps and stepping in where required.
What we’re looking for
Previous experience in care is essential. You’ll be comfortable delivering personal support and able to use your judgement when priorities change or a colleague needs guidance.
A relevant qualification is strongly preferred, ideally a Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults), or equivalent. We’d also welcome applications from candidates currently studying towards this.
You’ll need a sound understanding of safeguarding, the confidence to raise concerns and an organised approach to keeping records. Patience, reliability and respect for people’s individual choices are equally important.
Experience of guiding colleagues or taking responsibility during a shift would be helpful, but you don’t need to have held a Senior Support Worker title before.
Working arrangements
The role follows a two-week rota, including evenings, bank holidays and alternate weekends, with every other weekend off. You’ll also participate in an on-call rota, supported by a manager when advice or assistance is needed.
